The socio-political situation in India over last 60 years of development
created a situation where corporate farming is not allowed. Millions
of small and marginal farmers with average ownership of 1-2 acres
of land made application of modern farming methods and standardisation
of quality parameters impossible. DFV pioneering efforts in Contract
Farming has converted this problem into an immense opportunity while
creating an eco-system of hundreds and thousands of farmers acting
as individual entrepreneurs.
DFV organized these small and marginal farmers through its support
to a cooperative system of governance where farmer’s clubs
were created to provide governance and consolidation of land, procurement
system and development of modern work practices. With significant
investments into training and education, DFV has built an army of
over 2000 farmers who are well-versed in modern irrigation technologies,
land preparation, fertigation, crop protection, plant treatment,
traceability and quality control systems.
Besides providing farmers with financial support and knowledge
development, DFV invests in their socio-economic development as
part of its corporate social responsibilities. Every farmer’s
club working with DFV is provided with the social development corpus.
This corpus is run by farmers to improve education, road infrastructure,
social service and any other requirement of importance for the village
and local community. The contribution by DFV to the corpus is dependent
on the performance of the farmer’s club thereby bringing in
the principles of good corporate governance.
DFV continues to improve the life of an average farmer who has
largely been untouched by the economic reforms and ensure better
living conditions.
