Banana – is the product that is revolutionising the horticulture
landscape of India.
India is the largest producer of Banana in the world. However,
its share of the world’s highest traded fruit is practically
zero percent. Despite having the ecological advantage and low production
cost, India has not been able to trade in the world Banana market
due to poor infrastructure and inconsistent quality.
Desai Banana is making this history. With an investment of over
US$ 500,000 in production and farm management, DFV is producing
bananas that meet international standards. The Company is poised
to change the way the world trades in Banana.
Desai produces the Grand Nine variety of Cavendish Banana through
a unique initiative called “Contract Farming”. This
mechanism ensures that the small and marginal farmers benefit from
the “corporatisation” of farming practices and at the
same time allow them control of their land and property. Hundreds
of farmers use natural and eco-friendly farming practices to produce
India’s (and maybe the world’s) best Banana.
