Fruits and Vegetables focuses beyond business. Tracing back the value
chain to its source, the Company has expanded its purview to take
on the role of counselor and provider of inputs and resources for
promoting quality, efficiency and welfare.
DFV works closely with the farmer to develop world-class products.
It provides inputs for farming, assures harvest buy-back, develops
and implements “natural” technologies, and affects efficiency
improvements (cold-chain infrastructure).
In order to have better control over the pre-harvest as well as
post-harvest activities in case of Contract farming, DFV provides
inputs in the form of seeds, fertilizers, chemicals as well as work
methodologies. This enables the Company to match the quality requirements
of international markets. By pooling the requirements of several
farmers, DFV helps them have stronger negotiating powers. It also
provides 0% loans to farmers for buying resources.
DFV has buy-back agreements with the farmers under which it buys
all the produce of the farmer provided the quality meets the defined
standards. This ensures that the farmers have a guaranteed source
of income and leads to improved efficiencies and lower costs.
It is estimated that 30% of India’s perishable products are
lost due to poor storage and transportation facilities. DFV has
and is continuously working towards significantly improving infrastructure
in order to improve quality and reduce wastage. It has invested
in the development of collection points at the village level and
a centralized state-of-art pack-house where the procured products
are sorted, graded, stored, processed and packaged. Company owned
refrigerated vans complete the cold-chain infrastructure that ensures
that customers receive “Real Fresh” fruits and vegetables. |
